  • Frederick Shadbolt was the son of Frederick John and Beryl O. Hinemoa Shadbolt, of Picton

He died while training for Fleet Air Arm in Canada.

His obituary in a newspaper (unknown) reads : "Mr and Mrs F.J. Shadbolt, Crarer Street, have received the sad news that their son F.J. ("Jack") Shadbolt, who was training for the Fleet Air Arm in Canada was killed in an aircraft accident in Ontario last Friday afternoon. He was 21 years of age. Part of his school days were spent in Wairoa, but he finished schooling at Palmerston North Boys' High School, where he was a member of the First XV and First Cricket XI. After leaving school he joined the Lands and Survey Department, but joined the army soon after the outbreak of war. After spending three years in the army, he was transferred to the Air Force, and following the completion of his initial training, went to Canada for further flying training. The many friends of the family will learn with regret of their sad loss." AWMM
