  • Son of James Cosson and of Alice Elizabeth Cosson (nee Howe); husband of Euphemia Cosson, of Auckland City, New Zealand

    He came to NZ as a child and was educated at Newton West school.

    He returned to England before the Great War and joined the British Army at the age of 15 years 10 months.

    After WWI , Gunner Cosson joined the Royal Irish Constabulary, and he subsequently was in the Royal Ulster Police. He married in Ireland and returned to New Zealand 15 years ago. He was an attendant at the Mental Hospital at Avondale for four years and also employed by the Auckland City Council for nine years.

    He served for seven years in the Territorials in Auckland, and was a member of the team that won the Battery Cup in the annual competition of the field artillery. He also won the Sergeants' Cup as the best horseman in his unit.

    Before being sent to the Middle East Dad wrote he would never leave home again as he missed us (his family of three children and his wife) too much.

    His adventurous life included even trying to join the Royal Canadian Mounties

    Enemy planes dive-bombing - blew him to pieces.
