  • Bernard Schollum was the navigator onboard my Uncle Clifford (known as Bruce) Andrew's plane (he was the rear gunner) and together they were lost in September 1943....Bernard was 19, and Bruce was 22.
    The photo you have on this page, is rather grainy and I have a much clearer copy if you would like to have it...I've attached my email address to this page. Bernard is standing in the middle of the photo and Bruce is smiling (and equally short!) and standing just to Bernard's LEFT (or right when viewing the photo!) They were on a bombing mission over Europe and after the plane was hit, the rest of the crew bailed out and Bernard, Bruce and the Australia Pilot (a married man) flew on, attempting to get the plane back to England....sadly they never made it. The rest of the crew who parachuted out, were captured and spent the last two years of the war in prisoner of war camps but di
