    New Zealand at the Front ( a magazine written and published and illustrated in France by men of the New Zealand Division) 1917 issue, page141. The memorial plaque was issued to all service people who had died during the war and was sent out to the next of kin .The plaque is made of bronze and is 120mm in diameter. The inscription on the plaque has the following "He (or she) died for freedom and honour". In the near centre of the plaque is the name of the serviceperson.A memorial scoll was also sent in conjunction with it which had the details of the serviceperson on it.

    The Memorial Plaque is in the Auckland War Memorial Museum's Scars on the Heart display AWMM

  • I have just discovered this memorial today while helping on a school visit. Upon further search on the cenotaph records I have discovered William was my grandfathers brother and checked marriage license records I have at home verifying Williams parents the same as my grandfather. This was an amazing find for me.
