    • Frederick Burrell was the son of John William and Effie Burrell, of 535, City Rd., Sheffield, England. AWMM
    • John William (Jack) Burrell (d 1899) and Effie Banks (d 1950) married in Bury, Lancashire and had 3 children - May, Effie (died 1907) and Fred who was born in 1890 in Sheffield. As a young man Fred travelled to NZ to live with his aunt Susan Smith (Nee Burrell) who lived at Hinahina, Catlins, South Otago, NZ. Susan and George Harry Smith had emigrated separately in 1877 and 1878. They had a family of 9 so plenty of cousins for Fred, and about the same age.
