  • Dad, sadly I learnt more about your war service at your funeral than any time before then . I learn of how great a staff Sergeant you were. A no nonsense sort of guy with a great sense of fairness. I learn you were very brave and you fought hard battles in North Africa and at great battles like Cassino in Italy. You were such a humble man . I understand now why you didn't talk up the war. It was a time that changed your life. A time that along with great comradeship, came great fear and you witnessed horrors that I am pleased none of your 5 Children or grand, and great grand children have had to see. I want you to know I am so sorry you had to have those years as part of your life but I am eternally grateful that you served your country to make this world a better place. I love you. Rosalie
