Kennedy Collins Morgan (born 4/2/1923 in Napier, Hawkes bay, NZ) was my uncle. His parents were George Frederick Collins Morgan and Jessie Morgan, nee Kennedy. Ken was a sapper (no 441101) at Johnston's park military camp in Fielding. On the 2nd of April 1943 whilst on guard duty, Ken was shot through the heart by one lance corporal Desmond Bennett . The death was ruled accidental. At the time, my father Edward Collins Morgan was serving in the Pacific aboard HMNZS Gambia. My father received the news via a letter written to him by his older 1/2 sister Joan Ashby. Dad was never reconciled to his younger brothers death, and the circumstances of it were never fully accepted by him. Ken is interred in the family plot at Havelock North cemetery.
