    John Coleman was part of the 22nd Reinforcements to leave New Zealand. They left in two groups, on 13 and 16 February 1917.

    Promoted to Lance Corporal 9.2.17; reverted Private 2.5.17; appointed Lance Corporal 10.2.18; reverted to Private 4.6.18; Driver 4.6.18.

    A photograph and an extract from a letter dated 29 April 1918 written in France to his sister Mary appear in Glyn Harper's book (2001) "Letters from the battlefield: NZ
    soldiers write home 1914-18" p. 136-139

    Coleman embarked from London on Waimana 10 May 1919, he disembarked in Auckland 23 June 1919. AWMM
