  • He embarked for Fiji on 19 November 1940 but returned to New Zealand before embarking on 27 June 1941 for Egypt.

    He was captured for 4 days at Sidi Aziez but released by an Indian Regiment.

    Claude Dixon has written of his experiences with B Company of 5 New Zealand Field Ambulance from 20 November to 30 December 1941, and also a three day round trip through Beirut, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Damascus , Sea of Tiberius and back. These these notes are lodged in the Auckland War Memorial Museum Manuscript Collection, Refence no. MS99/89. AWMM
