London Gazette 11 February 1919, p2143, Rec No 2488 "Operations: British Front east of Bapaume 2nd September 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack on Mill Cross on the 2nd September 1918, Lance Corporal Adlam’s platoon Commander was killed, and he was the only NCO left. The platoon was ordered to move forward to fill a gap and consolidate. This was a particularly dangerous operation, requiring cool and courageous leadership, as the ground was open and swept by rifle and machine gun fire. He took charge of the platoon, led them on to their objective, and consolidated, personally going round and seeing that touch was kept with platoons on his flanks. His coolness and courage were a great example to his men." McDonald, p. 2 AWMM
