  • Leonard Schmidt (Smith) was the son of George Hans Schmidt and Amelia Schmidt, of Sunnyside, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand.

    He was killed when the Nino Bixio, carrying Allied prisoners, was torpedoed.
