    • James Annand was the son of Bertram Charles Annand and of Mary Annand (nee Roughan), of Trentham, Wellington, New Zealand.

    • Born in Kahurarahi in 1920 he grew up in Wanganui and then attended NPBHS.
      He played rugby and an excellent swimmer. He was in the school surf team and a corporal in the cadet unit. He moved to Wellington and worked for the Public Works Department and started at Victoria University on a BCom. He was also a member of Maranui Surf Club.
      In 1941 joined the RNZAF and trained as a pilot. He trained at Rotorua and then Ashburton.
      He gained his flying wings at Wigram and sailed for the UK in 1943.He trained inthe UK and the was posted to the Middle East. He then transferred to Italy in 1944 flying Boston bombers.
      On 7 March he flew from Forli Aerodrome to carry out a raid on a factory and stores dump. The plane failed to clear high telegraph poles beyond the Aerodrome and crashed 2 miles from the airport. All crew in a fully loaded plane lost their lives. He is buried in the Military Cemetery at Forli. He was 25 years old. Public - John - Researcher - 8 March 2023 - The Valour Project
