Posted to No 4 Company, New Zealand Machine Gun Corps, Grantham, 23 April 1917.
Proceeded overseas to France, 28 May 1917.
Sprained right ankle, night 4/5 June 1917: 4th Machine Gun Company was moving into assembly position for Messines attack; Allingham, carrying a big load of machine gun gear, slipped on the duckboard in one of the communication trenches, slipped, and twisted his ankle; he remained with the Company and then reported sick; admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance, 9 June 1917; transferred to Divisional Rest Station, 9 June 1917. Injury determined to have been sustained in the performance of his military duty; soldier not to blame.
Wounded in action, 4 October 1917 (gun shot wound, side), and admitted to 44th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 16th General Hospital, Le Treport, 5 October 1917; to No 3 Convalescent Depot, 12 October 1917; marched in to Machine Gun Corps Base Depot, Camiers, 17 October 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 26 November 1917.
Joined 4th NZ Machine Gun Bn, and posted to A Company, 28 February 1918.
To England on leave, 9 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 4 April 1918.
Wounded in action, 13 September 1918 (gun shot wounds, left thight: fracture); admitted to No 1 Field Ambulance, 13 September 1918, and transferred same day to Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 25, and admitted to 8th Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 14 September 1918. Placed on 'dangerously ill' list, 16 September 1918.
Died of wounds, 26 September 1918.
