    • Son of Elizabeth Margaret Pratt and Justin Percival Pratt.

Transferred to New Zealand Engineers February 1915.

Served with the Mounted Signal Troops as a Motor despatch rider.

After the war, Charles Pratt and his brother started a factory in Geelong, New South Wales, Australia, where they built De Havilland aeroplanes.

De Havillands were developed by Sir Geoffrey de Havilland who in 1910 successfully built and flew an airplane with a 50 hp engine. He joined the Army Balloon factory and originated the BE series of tractor biplanes. He was a chief designer and test pilot for the Aircraft Manufacturing Company during World War 1 and produced several successful fighters and light bombers. He formed the De Havilland Aircraft Company in September 1920. The Moth, a light two-seater made by the company started the flying club movement in Great Britain. In World War 2 the company's most successful plane was the twin-engined Mosquito. After the war he pioneered the Comet airliner and the DH Ghost jet engines. Geoffrey de Havilland was knighted in 1944 and awarded the Order of Merit in 1962. AWMM
