  • Pilot Officer Barnett was the son of Geoffrey Michael Fulton Barnett and Flora Annie Barnett, of New Zealand.

    He was born in London, England, and educated in New Zealand.

    He graduated as a pilot in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, before being selected for a short service commission in the Royal Air Force.

    Barnett was the youngest New Zealand casualty in Bomber Command
