  • Squadron Leader Bennett joined the Royal Air Force in 1930.

    At the time of his death, Squadron Leader Bennett was an Armament Officer; prior to this, he had served as a pilot.

    Thompson (1959) states that Squadron Leader Bennett was killed on air operations.

    Martyn (1998; For Your Tomorrow: a record of New Zealanders who have died while serving with the RNZAF and Allied Air Services since 1915. Volume One) reports that Squadron Leader Bennett was killed by shell fire on the road between Tobruk and El Adem during the German assault on Tobruk. An Australian patrol recovered his body on the night of 18/19 April 1941. AWMM
