  • Corporal Berry was the son of John James Berry and Fanny Harriet Berry (maiden name unknown), of Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand.

    Cody (Official history of New Zealand in the Second World War 1939-45: 21 Battalion, p.90) notes Corporal Berry was a popular and capable non-commissioned officer who died of machine gun wounds to the chest while C, D, and HQ companies were withdrawing from Wadi esc Sciomar. AWMM
