  • On the 3rd August 1942, a Dornier Do 217E-4 Wnr.1225 (U5 + AD) from Stab III/Kampfgeschwader was bombing Wellingborough, Northants. It was in turn attacked by F/Lt Lindsay Black (RNZAF) in a Spitfire Vb of No.485 Squadron and shot down. The aircraft crashed near Cranford, a small village on the outskirts of Kettering, killing all four crew members. Uffz Eugen Beyerer, Uffz Erich Huwald, Uffz Zerak and Gefr Frisch all now lie in the Deutsche Soldatenfriedhof Cannock Chase: Block 9. Row 6. Grave 35.
