    • Sergeant Brooke-Taylor was the son of Roydon and Ida Winifrid Brooke-Taylor of Wellington. Husband of Olive Clarence Brooke-Taylor of Wellington.

His brother 41251 Pilot Officer Keith Brooke-Taylor, Royal Air Force, died while flying on active duty on 7 April 1940.

Sergeant Brooke-Taylor was flying in Oxford I R6226 on a triangular cross country flight, with Leading Aircraftman T.A.H. Alexander in control as student pilot. At 0745 R6226 lost height at 100 feet, then carried out a steep left hand turn at high speed before cutting through power lines and a two story wooden house on the property of Mr C M Kebbell's, near Ashurst, at the entrance to the Manawatu Gorge. The severely damaged Oxford finally came to a stop100-150 yards further on from the dwelling. The airmen were both killed, but the occupants of the house escaped injury. AWMM
