  • He returned from Cassino, Italy on compassionate leave in 1944. He met his future wife in Melbourne, Australia on the way home. At the end of the war he returned to Melbourne and they got married. He and his bride returned to New Zealand on the troopship "Durban Castle" arriving on 27 January 1946.
