    • Walter Caldwell was the son of Walter Alexander Caldwell and Lorna Irene Caldwell, of St. Heliers, Auckland, New Zealand. AWMM
    • On 20 april 1942 he flew off USS Wasp to Malta as a member of 601 Squadron. On 10 may 1942 he scrambled in his Spitfire V (4-H) and shoot down an Italian Macchi MC 202 of 97th Squadriglia, flown by Captain Roberto Degasso (KIA). On 17 May came his second victory in Spitfire V (3-U), a Messerschmitt Bf 109. His third and last victory came on 19 May, flying Spitfire V (3-M). He shoot down an Italian bomber Cant Z 1007bis, pilot Sottotenente Nicola Falcone and his crew were rescued from sea suffering from minor wounds.
