  • I am the great neice of Mervyn. My mother is FAY GOURLEY nee Wilkinson who was Mervyns neice. He was my grandfathers Fredericks brother. My mother told me with great fondness stories of Merv bringing them American sweets and carrying her on his shoulders. She also shared with us with great sadness how he was killed in the line of duty. Apparentlyhe had returned from a flight and his plane was on the runway when another plane landed on top of them which caused both planes to explode killing all the soliders along with my great uncle. His name is engraved in the Huntly cenotaph and to all concerned was taken far too young as he was only 21 years of age at the time of his death in the United Kingdom.
