AWMM David was training to fly Westland Lysanders (a large STOL aircraft) into makeshift air strips in France. The cargo would be French Underground personnel and supplies. His log book entry completed by the Commanding Officer of the unit records the training accident that claimed the lives of David and a fellow pilot, they were in a Miles Magister.
