    • Thomas Cornish was the son of William John Cornish and of Mary Jane Cornish (nee Braid); husband of Violet Lilian Cornish, of Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand. AWMM
    • From a letter written by L/Cpl D McKENZIE
Having passed through the campaign in Greece and Crete. Now Zealand soldiers in the Middle East are hard put to it at times to spend their leisure while awaiting further action. One group of Gisborneites. however, has found an agreeable means of keeping a civilian enthusiasm going, according to a letter received by Mr. and Mrs. S. McKenzie. from their son, Lance-Corporal D. McKenzie.
"Things being at a loose end, Geoll McConnell and I, Allan Morrison, and Tom Cornish, all of Gisborne, went to the Gerira Sports Club to have a game of bowls on Friday. We played full rinks, making up the teams with sailors, and had a great game,’’ writes the Gisborne soldier. Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 28 June 2023 - BOWLS IN EGYPT
