MM. London Gazette, 13 March 1918, p3254, Rec No 1769: Operations opposite Polderhoek, 27th November to 5th December 1917. On 3rd December at the assault on Polderhoek Chateau, Private Capon was one of the crew of No 2 Mortar. When firing the Mortar one of the rounds miss-fired, and the round was removed from the barrel and placed on the ground. Private Capon noticed that the round was fizzing and with great presence of mind picked it up and threw it over the parapet. The round exploded as soon as he had done so. By this splendid act of bravery he saved the gun crew, the Mortar and the ammunition near it. AWMM
