  • Thomas Dale was the son of James Murray Dale and Maude Mary Dale, of Wellington.

    Dale and his navigator, Pilot Officer Ronald Joffre Whittleston, were the first New Zealanders to lose their lives flying with 100 Group.

    Dale's brother, James Atkinson Dale, died a little over two months later, on 25 August, while flying with 75 (NZ) Squadron, RAF.
