  • Russell Dalgleish was the son of Henry Allen Dalgleish and Annie Dalgleish, of Fordell

    A letter written by his commanding officer to his mother said he was killed in an ambush while on patrol and that he was a good soldier and liked by all in his unit.

    Name is listed as Dalgliesh on the Roll of Honour, Wellsford RSA

    An article in the Western Leader, 27 October 2011, p. 7 mentions the diary of Douglas Strid a member of 24 Battalion who wrote in his war time diary about the death of eight of his colleagues on 1 January 1945 and their burials. AWMM
