    • Member of the New Zealand Alpine Club:

"Frank Cole Dawson was born in Invercargill on 9th October 1906, but his parents moved to Dunedin shortly afterwards. He received his primary education at the High Street School, and thereafter attended the Otago Boys' High School from 1920 to 1923, where he proved himself to be one of the outstanding scholars of his year. He entered with enthusiasm and vigour into the sporting activities of the school, being particularly keen on athletics and Rugby football, at which he represented the 1st XV on a number of occasions. On leaving school, he commenced studying Law at the Otago University, and in 1929 received the degree of Bachelor of Laws. He subsequently was admitted to partnership in the legal firm of Moore Dawson & Aitken, where he continued practising his profession up to the time of his entering the Armed Forces, towards the end of 1942."
