  • Andrew Dick was the son of James and Beatrice Ellen Dick (nee Leitch) of Strabane, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Andrew Dick lost his life when he was serving on board HMS Trinidad which was attacked and torpedoed in the Arctic on 28 March 1942. The Trinidad was struck by her own torpedo - the torpedo had not been prepared for cold water running and it froze up. For details see Paul Kemp's book Convoy, p. 43.

At the time they were sunk they were trying to round up six of the scattered ships of PQ18 which a convoy of Allied ships heading for Murmansk.

The Trinidad has been under repair at Kola since the PQ17 convoy in July 1942. She had been patched up and made sea worthy for the voyage to Iceland from where she was to go to the USA for proper repairs. (See Paul Kemp's book Convoy for this reference and further information). AWMM
