    PACIFIC TRAGEDY
GISBORNE MAN’S DEATH SERVICE WITH BOMBERS One of the Royal New Zealand Air Force casualties reported in Saturday’s issue of the Herald, as a result of the loss of Hudson planes between a Pacific Island base and New Zealand some weeks ago was Warrant Officer Arthur Francis Dunstan. youngest son of Mrs. M. L. Dunstan and the late Mr. T. J. Dunstan, Matawhero. Warrant Officer Dunstan was 25 years of age, and was educated at the Makaraka School, where he was awarded the dux certificate in 1931. Later he worked for the New Zealand Railways Department in Gisborne, and the Gisborne Refrigerating Company, Limited, enlisting from the latter company’s staff in 1941. He trained in a New Zealand depot, and subsequently in Canada, Where his expert knowledge of air gunnery and radio operation gained him an instructing post, which he held for two years. He was then transferred to the Pacific, and it was at the conclusion of his second tour of operations with a bomber squadron that he lost his life. In civil life, Warrant Officer Dunstan was a keen sportsman, and played as a member of the Celtic Football Club and the Kia Ora Lawn Tennis Club. He married Miss Frances Hardaker, Wanganui, and' leaves his widow and one small daughter. He had four brothers and three sisters, one brother being in service in Trentham military camp and one sister being a member of the W.A.A.F. at Ardmore.
