    • William Evans was the son of Herbert Henry and Ambrosina Evans, and the husband of Ellen Jane Evans, of Westmere, Wellington AWMM
    • He was a founding school master at Rotorua High School, and taught English. He coached rugby and rowing, and was the OC for the school cadet unit. Because ex-pupils were signing up to join the army when war was declared, William felt compelled to go as well. He left a wife, a son James Arthur Evans and daughter Jocelyn.
