    • Grand-son of Nelson business-man - and twice Mayor of Nelson - Edward H. Everett (born Hackney, London 1820 - died 1904 at Nelson, New Zealand) - and his wife Hannah Maria Everett - nee Pope - (born 1826 at St Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands, United Kingdom - died 1900 at Nelson). • Excerpt from a letter written to the widow of Donald Everett - Patricia Mary Everett of Nelson, New Zealand - from New Zealand Platoon Commander Sgt D'Arcy G. Whiting NZ284322 - of C. Company 24th New Zealand Battalion, 2nd NZEF about the death of Donald Everett at Cassino, Italy on 17 April 1944:
"On the night of the seventeenth of April (1944) we were holding a forward position in the hills to the right of Cassino. Shortly after dark Cpl Day had received orders for a patrol and was moving towards his objective when Don was killed by a rifle shot in the head. Death was instantaneous and he knew no pain. I was notified almost immediately but there was nothing I could do. Padre Francis agreed to come forward and Don was buried that night - next to the graves of three French men. He (Donald) lies in a valley as beautiful as any I have seen. Close by is an Italian farmhouse ..picturesque for it is spring in Italy". Public - Jenifer - Other relative - 29 August 2021 - Letter written - and dated 29 April 1944 at NZ Camp, Italy - to Donald Everett's widow by his commanding officer Sgt D'Arcy G. Whiting (died 2009) : Archway NZ.
