  • My father William Henry Clark was a very close friend of Norman Frederick Hammond. Together they owned a keel boat named the Anihera which they sailed on the Manukau harbour and later the Waitemata harbour after having the boat transported by road. She was later burned some time in the 1930s while moored very near the original Panmure bridge and was a total loss. When Mr Hammond was lost in North Africa in 1941 my father felt the loss of his close friend very keenly. When I was born in December 1944 I was named Norman Frederick, in Mr Hammond's memory. I am and have always been proud to own those names and to be, in a way, a symbol of my father's friendship and regard for Norman Frederick Hammond.
