    • Reason for aircraft / crew loss :

      RAF 40 Squadron Wellington Bomber Mk 1c X9619 BL-M took off - from RAF Alconbury, Cambridgeshire, England - for a bombing air operation to Nuremberg, Germany.
      Over Belgium the Wellington was attacked and shot down by a German night fighter (flown by Oblt Heinrich Griese of 1/NJG1).
      According to a statement a Belgium school master - Mr Lovet Marcel - stated that a twin-engine aircraft crashed at 22:30 hours in a field. All crew aboard the Wellington did not survive and they were all buried at Dinant (Citadelle) Cemetery. There are also 25 other graves of allied airmen in this cemetery.
