    • Ian Field was the son of Gordon Field and of Dorothy Field (nee Lewis), of Hope, Nelson, New Zealand.

      Killed in raid on Nuremberg, Germany AWMM
    • Reason for aircraft / crew loss :

      RAF 40 Squadron Wellington Bomber Mk 1c X9619 BL-M took off - from RAF Alconbury, Cambridgeshire, England - for a bombing air operation to Nuremberg, Germany.
      Over Belgium the Wellington was attacked and shot down by a German night fighter (flown by Oblt Heinrich Griese of 1/NJG1).
      According to a statement a Belgium school master - Mr Lovet Marcel - stated that a twin-engine aircraft crashed at 22:30 hours in a field. All crew aboard the Wellington did not survive and they were all buried at Dinant (Citadelle) Cemetery. There are also 25 other graves of allied airmen in this cemetery.       1) Pilot Officer Ian Field : RNZAF NZ/401757 - aged 26 years (killed).

      3) Observer Flying Officer Eric John Sugg : RAAF Aus/407141 - aged 30 years (killed).
      4) Wireless Operator Flight Sergeant Thomas Lincoln Duxburg RCAF Canada/R59125 - aged 25 year (killed).
      5) Wireless Operator/Air Gunner Sergeant Richard A. Dundon : RAFVR.
