  • This is my koroua. His photo hangs pride of place in our family home. He was the twin brother of my koro. He never returned home after the war he was only 24 years old. I remember especially on Anzac day my koro reverently taking this photo down from the wall and we all making the walk to whakarewarewa to dawn services and from there to wherever to have a few drinks for his twin.. My koro used to get me to hold the photo in my little 5 year old hand and my other hand secured protectively in his.. My koro was the biggest man in the world out of my 5y.o eyes and that hasn't changed 35 years later.. I remember a tear or two when koro would return his brother to the wall at the end of every anzac day.. These are the memories i have of my koro and his twin brother Tionga Waaka who never returned home to us physically but through my koro and now through us and his many mokos who come and will
