    • OHINEMURI GAZETTE, VOLUME XXX, ISSUE 4078, 9 JUNE 1919, PAGE 2
      IN MEMORIAM.
CARTHY— In loving memory of Private Victor Claude Carthy, killed in action at the Battle of Messines, June 7, 1917. A boy in life's happy springtime, A boy to whom life was so dear, With a true man's sense of duty, And a brave man's scorn of fear. Eternal rest grant to him 0 Lord and may light perpetual shine upon him. Inserted by his loving parents and family.

The following article is about Victor's father Patrick who had 4 sons serve in WWI.

      FIGHTING FAMILIES.
OHINEMURI GAZETTE, VOLUME XXVIII, ISSUE 3771, 21 MAY 1917, PAGE 2
The family of Mr. Patrick Henry Carthy, of the Puke Road, Paeroa, can well be classed with those of the fighting heroes. John Christopher, aged 22, left with the 8th Reinforcement on the 23rd of November, 1915. After serving in Egypt for some time he went to France, and was there wounded on the 15th September, 1916. After recovering sufficiently he rejoined the trenches in France and is there still.
Another son—Victor Claud—aged 20, left in the 23rd Reinforcements on September 23, 1916. He is also in the trenches in France, and so far has escaped uninjured.
Frederick Ernest, is performing home service in Wellington, having been turned down by the Medical Board as unfit for active service.
Thomas Frederick, 26 years of age, is at present in Featherston Camp and will leave for the front with the 29th Reinforcements.
Mr. Carthy has also a nephew, C. C. Kenny, in the trenches having joined the Canadian forces in the early part of the war. He also has been wounded, but is in the fighting ranks again. Public - Gina - Other relative - 15 June 2023 - family records, Papers Past articles
