    • Warrant Officer Norman Vickers - piloting RNZAF P40M-10 NZ3111 - crashed near Kahili at 09:35 hours on 23 September 1943. The aircraft was shot down by enemy (Japanese) aircraft during an escort duty. Warrant Officer Norman Vickers was taken prisoner, by the Japanese, and died in captivity on 24 July 1944.
