  • Son of John G. and Nora Foy, of Auckland, New Zealand, was one of eight children.

    On April 14 1945, Pilot Officer Foy was a navigator on a Beaufighter aircraft engaged on a strike against enemy shipping in the Jossingfjord, Norway. When climbing away from the attack, two of the aircraft, two of the aircraft collided and plunged into the sea. The bodies of all, including Edward Foy, were never recovered. They died a few weeks before the end of the war. (Confortare,2010)

    The motto of the 489 Squadron was 'Whakatangata Kia Kaha' - 'Be strong, be brave, fight well'

    Attended Sacred Heart College, Marist Convent and the University of Auckland. (Confortare, 2010)

    He trained in Canada and in England, becoming a navigator with Beaufighter aircraft and also trained as a torpedo specialist in Ayrshire.(Confortare,2010) AWMM
