  • Son of Tomuri and Martha Te Awa of Foxton

    MV Palmer was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U183 in the Indian Ocean 400 miles south of Ceylon in position 05 51 north and 79 58 east while sailing independently on a voyage from Liverpool, Cape Town, Colombo to Madras and Calcutta. The ship carried 300 tons of general cargo. The Master (Captain Alfred R Osburn), 41 crew and 4 gunners were rescued and later landed in Colombo. 4 crew and 3 gunners were lost AWMM
