  • Husband of N.E. Gifford of Dominion Road, Auckland

    He received his education at Avondale School and Seddon Memorial Technical College. A keen sportsman, he played Rugby Football, and participated in boxing where in 1928 he won the Northern Boxing Club's welterweight championship and was also runner up for the Auckland heavy weight championship

    In civilian life, he was an engineer and at one stage was transferred to Niue Island as the an engineer in charge of Public Works. At the time of his enlistment in the ground staff of the Air Force, with the unit he went to Singapore with, he was foreman in the Public Work's Engineering shop in Whangarei

    Gifford, a master mechanic, was killed outright whilst loading cargo aboard SS Talthybius in Singapore Harbour.

    Next of kin details compiled from information in the Casualty lists published in the newspapers.
