Leave a tribute or memory of
Albert Alexander Gilmore
I think of you often Great Uncle Albert. The cost of your life was great yet was not in vain! Thanks to you we have a freedom in New Zealand still! Never will be forgotten.

Thinking of my Great Uncle Albert on ANZAC Day and honouring his sacrifice. I used to enjoy reading the accounts of the fun games and thoughts of the Petrol company on their way to Cairo and Crete. I recall my grandmother Kathleen Gilmore, who married Albert's older brother Leslie Robert Mintrose Gilmore, telling how they utilised his car for weekly date night outings during the time Albert was at war. When news of his death came it coincided with his brother Les finishing seven years of training for Methodist ministry. He went on to many years of Methodist ministry until his retirement in 1979. His first daughter Margaret, my mother, was born in Kaitaia in 1943, followed by Barbara and Alison. His sacrifice has led to our family enjoying the freedom we enjoy today here in New Zealand. It all started with a farming family in Pukekohe and a national pride.
