  • Embarked for Canada on the 22nd July 1941, attached to the Royal Canadian Air Force, on board the Dominion Monarch, Auckland to Liverpool via PC and Halifax. Gilmour disembarked at Halifax on the 16th August 1941.

    Recieved Pilots Badge and Commission on the 7th November 1941.

    Attached to the Royal Air Force and embarked for the UK on the 13th December 1941.

    Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1943 and mentioned in Despatches in recognition of distinguished service and devotion to duty.
    Attended Dilworth School May 1928 - July 1936. Son of Richard Smyth and Mary Gilmour (nee MacDonald), Glasgow Scotland. AWMM
