  • Ian Grant is my distant cousin. Research shows Ian travelled the globe from Shanghai to Canada to England. He was a trainer for night bomber pilots at RAF Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire. On the night of 16/17 September 1942 all airworthy planes and crew were deployed to bomb Essen that night. To that end the trainers were also co-opted. Ian lost his life in the service of his country New Zealand aged 24 yrs. The only inscription I have so far found is with CWGC listing Ouddorp Cemetery, and here on Auckland War Memorial Museum ( HE TOA TAUMATA RAU) site.
