My grandmother's much loved eldest brother. The day she was notified by telegram that he had died in the hills of Florence Italy my father remembers her utter grief. He was known to be a very physically able athlete in the warkworth region being a representative in hockey and tennis, he was in line to inherit the family farm and his loss of input to family and community life was sorely felt. He is believed to have fallen in love and had a child to Mrs Ormsby of Te Kuiti just before he went to war- a child who would never meet his father.
