    • Harold Green was the son of James Edwin Green and of Helena Victoria Green (nee Horrox), of Kaitaia, New Zealand.

Barrass, M.B. (2001- 2008). Web site: Air of Authority - A History of RAF Organisation. "Squadrons numbered in the 400 series were technically units of the RCAF, RAAF and RNZAF, but their members were placed under the operational control of the RAF and are usually considered to be part of the RAF's organisational structure". URL: http://www.rafweb.org/Sqn485-490.htm AWMM
    • At the time of his death Harold's parents were living in Turua on the Hauraki Plains. They moved to Kawakawa after that. They never lived in Kaitaia.

Harold was the youngest child of four in his family. His eldest brother was James (Jim), then Frank and Cecily.

His older brother Frank also served in WWII in the army as part of the First Echelon in the Divisional Signals. He served in Egypt. He returned from the war.

Harold's brother Frank had a son in 1945 whose second name was Harold in memory of his brother.

Harold's father died in the early 1950's but his mother lived into her 80's. His brother Jim and sister Cecily lived into their 90's with his brother Frank dying at 70.

Harold has 5 nieces and nephews and now large numbers of great nieces and nephews. Public - Jim - Other Relative - 25 April 2015 - Family oral history

  • Once again we attended the dawn service and a huge crowd had gathered this year on a perfect morning to remember.
I got your photo out from where it sits with those of other members of our family and placed it on the bench in the kitchen, so you were even closer to us and very much a part of our family, even though it is now so long ago you left - never to return.
While we never met we share so much and the various parts of your family continue to flourish.
    We will never forget.

  • This year ANZAC day was special because we found out more about your life. In leaving messages on this site I was contacted by Pauline, the daughter of Estelle who you had met before you went overseas. This was a relationship I had not heard of, never mentioned to me, nor to my elder brother. Yet we had both seen Estelle's photo and pondered who that person might have been. Thanks to Pauline we now know a whole new dimension to your life.
I have been able to fill in more details now, having read your letters and hearing of your time in Palmerston Nth while still in training.
And so, today, at the dawn service, when the guest speaker talked of the love for those men and women who never came home, I felt a small contentment that you had known even more than the deep love of your parents, siblings and the generations that followed.
You were happy, looking forward to a future, and in love.

  • This year we were able to return to the dawn service and thought of you, along with your brother Frank, and the contributions you made to our lives. My dad to come home, you to not return and for me and my family to never meet you. We are eternally grateful and mindful of the misery your death so far away overseas caused for my grandparents, my father and aunt and uncle.
We will never forget who you were and you live on for us all through your picture proudly displayed in our home, and through our son named Lewis.
    Rest in peace.

  • Once again we honour you and thank you. In the last year we visited your grave in Evreux, taking with us your great niece and her partner. With COVID-19 now it may be a long time until we visit that place again but your memory remains strong for us. We have also welcomed two new members of the family, two great great nephews. In time they will also learn of you. Just today 24/4/20 we shared a breakfast with your picture on the table and one of your brother Frank, my father. Both gone but never forgotten. Jim
