  • Educated at Lower Kowhitirangi School, Westland. he walked to school, more than 2 miles each way.

    His siblings recalled him as a happy loving brother.

    He got his drivers license in 1932

    Before enlisting he worked at the City Council, at a mill close to the family farm and also worked at Westland Hospital.

    His favourite sport was rugby and he was the Captain of the Kiwi Team (Hokitika) in 1935.

    His favourite song was Red River Valley. AWMM
