  • I never knew Lou either but always referred to him as 'Uncle Lou', my hero. He rode an Indian motorbike around Cassino delivering messages until somehow, sadly, he was killed at the age of 34. He was my grandma's brother and I know she mourned him for the rest of her life. He was always spoken about in great affection, as well as great sadness, and as a child I had him on a very high pedestal, as I still do. Such a tragic waste of his life, along with so many others. RIP

  • In memory of my Uncle Lou. I never knew him but my mother, his youngest sister Betty, always spoke of him with love and admiration. Lou died the day after ANZAC Day, 1944 as the result of a motorbike accident - perhaps having a bit of 'down-time' during the horror of Cassino.
