LOSS IN ACTION One of the largest families of the district with all its members on service overseas has just suffered its first bereavement as a result of the war in the death of Private James Joseph Hall, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Hall, Tatapouri. There are five hoys in the fighting services—four in .the Army and one in the air force. In addition to the one just reported killed in action, .One has been wounded, and one is a prisoner of war. All the members of the family enlisted early in the war at about the same time. All five were engaged in a cray-fishing business in premises situated beside the main Coast road just beyond Turihaua,. and just after the war commenced their usual large sign of “Crayfish” was suddenly replaced by another, “No More Crayfish —Blame Hitler.” For some time now, Mr. and Mrs. Hall, who live on the premises, have displayed the Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes on the flagpole and painted flags with a big Von a board. Since the news of the death of their eldest son, these flags have been lowered to half-mast.
