  • Alan Harper was the son of Alan Bruce Harper and Fanny Harper; husband of Betty Harper, of Lower Hutt, Wellington.
    Harper was the only serving New Zealand chaplain to be killed in World War II. He was chaplain to 4 Field Regiment, New Zealand Artillery.
    He had just returned from burying a gunner, when he was killed by large calibre shellfire. AWMM
